Research Interests:
Systems biology of virus-host interaction: RNA silencing provides protection against virus infection in Drosophila as has been established in plants, but the antiviral mechanism in Drosophila is still very limited. My laboratory concentrates on some fundamental questions in the field: how fruit flies perceive and respond to viruses, and how viruses counter-respond to host defense responses. We are using genomics, computational and molecular approaches to study the dynamic changes of endogenous small RNAs and message RNAs that occur in response to virus challenge.
Exploiting the functional diversity of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs): We are using combined genomic, bioinformatic and high throughput platform technologies to catalogue ncRNAs associated with different chromatin remodeling complexes, dissect the mechanistic roles of ncRNAs in mammalian development. In parallel, both in-house and public gene expression data sets are using to profile gene expression of ES cells and differentiated cells, in order to find lead compounds for the maintenance of ES cell pluripotency and directed differentiation.
